I have 2 old apple trees in the garden at the back of my house in which hang bird feeders – some containing sunflower hearts and some peanuts.
Over the past week (early June), the trees have been visited daily by a female Great Spotted Woodpecker adult and a recently fledged youngster and their modus operandi has been of the youngster sitting on the tree trunk and the female adult flying to and from the peanut feeders to feed the youngster.
This image shows the adult returning to the peanut feeder.
