I was captivated by the magnificent fluorescent and almost metallic colours and tones of the female Kingfisher's plumage accentuated by the lovely early morning light.

Teal at the hover

Don't often see Teal hovering but this one was chasing a rival male and unusually fluttered about above it for a few seconds. Interesting too (I thought) that the varied angle of light incidence makes the wing weather colour patches, the speculum, quite variable.

Until I saw this Kingfisher hunting, catching and consuming an insect, in my ignorance and inexperience, I didn't realise that Kingfishers consumed anything other than fish. Education is all....!!!
